Entrepreneurs come in all shapes and sizes

Note: this may be a little off topic but I think it is something you will find inspirational.

You probably knew that entrepreneurs come in many different guises and the questions about what makes an entrepreneur never seem to get the “right answer”.

I believe that entrepreneurship can also mean taking your skill, talent or wares and finding and opportunity to create a market for that.

With that definition I believe that Paul Potts, a mobile phone salesman from Wales, is entrepreneurial. But it’s not what you think – definitely not about technology or mobile phones.

Today’s Courier Mail newspaper (Brisbane, Australia) has an article about Paul that inspired me. And then I visited the YouTube videos that showed Paul in action. It’s been a while since I started a Saturday morning with tears in my eyes.

Have a look for yourself.

This is an important point. “Wanna-be” entrepreneurs should not worry about whether they fit into some other individuals notion of what they should be like. Instead try and be whats best for you – and learn from everybody. Equally, policy makers should avoid a “one-size-fits-all” approach. I have found the Peter Kilby comparison between the Heffalump and the entrepreneurs as good a way as any to appreciate the diffwerences here.

Bravo, Bravo! Thanks Leah. Just this week my beautiful sister said, “I jut want to BE somebody”… and I told her she already was – her beautiful self. And now this – Paul Potts BEING Paul Potts … and what a breathtaking example to us all – when we literally and metaphorically “find our voice” we are incredible, awesome and inspiring. WOW!

Amazing stuff Leah. I have goosepumps on my goosebumps…

Thanks for sharing these, they are a huge dose of inspiration and ‘being yourself’ encouragement. We may not all be able to sing like Paul Potts, but we can take heart that each of us has a special gift that we can bring to world if we dare.

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Paul Potts actually won the competition. His goal was to sing in front of the Queen. What he also got along the way was 1M Pound Stirling and apparently a recording deal. The added extras that come with focusing on your goal can be surprising sometimes. The thing that Paul said that has been a wonderful outcome of this process was the confidence he had gained in himself. What can beat that for a prize?

Got something to say?
