Design is Not Art!

March 6, 2007 · → 2 Comments

This was one of the main things that I picked up from a post by Joshua Porter in my morning round of blog reading – design is not art.

Design is about usability and is almost always contextual.  Most importantly thought it is about the user!

In the online world today I often come across people who confuse design and art.  A beautiful web presence may not always be a well designed one.

This started me thinking about where else good design can fall victim to art-full-ness.

kitchen design, town planning, how-to guides ….

Where else can you think of?

Cars. I loathe the gold and the orange cars that have surfaced over the last 5 years. Those colours ruin some damn good body-designs!

(Hope you don’t have a gold or orange car!)

Gold or orange? me? I do remember the lovely gold that the old SLE Commodore came in. I agree ! Great design spoilt!

Got something to say?
