Aside – Rain

As an aside …. I am sooo excited about the rain we are getting here today. When there are level 3 water restrictions due to an exception drought then small things like rain can make me happy. Big things can be nice but I am grateful for small mercies.

Same here! We’ve had so much rain since Sunday, it’s been awesome. When I heard a little more pitter patter on the roof this morning, I said “Yes! Rain!” – when a few years ago it would have been “Rats! Rain!”
Me too! When I was a child, rain was so precious and infrequent (av rainfall only 13 inches or I think thats about 325 mm) annually. When it rained, the adults were in such a good mood – everyone would jump around dancing and singing, even if it meant cancelling planned travel to “town” (because the roads were unsealed) or freezing all the food prepared for a party because even with a few drops of rain, no-one ventured out. It was a mortal sin to drive on wet roads as it would “cut up” the road, and the tracks remain for up to 2 years until the next time it was graded. Anyway, thanks Leah for reminding us to be grateful… and for sparking a trip down memory lane for me.
Thanks Leah
You’ve said it. I don’t remember things being this bad since 1983 the year of the horrific Ash wednesday bushfires in Victoria.
The rain IS sheer joy. And a brief repite from bucketing used water into the garden as well!
